French Soccer Federation president Noel Le Graet says he does not need referees to interrupt matches if there are chants that are homophobic, despite new rules this year fractures are permitted by that.
Ligue 1 matches in Nice and Metz were stopped within a week of each other last month following discriminatory banner ads were seen in the crowd.
A Ligue 2 match between Nancy and Le Mans was temporarily ceased before in August but Le Graet, who is about the FIFA Council, believes interrupting drama is misguided.
“I wouldn’t quit the matches – totally from that,” Le Graet told French radio station France Info on Tuesday.
The French soccer league set up an action plan to tackle homophobia in its own arena together with Ligue 1 president matches could be stopped by Nathalie Boy de la Tour.
Asked if referees would accompany his petition in this weekend’s matches,” Le Graet said:”I expect so.
“We will make certain there aren’t any longer (homophobic banners and chants). But stopping a match? – No.”
The president doesn’t have the authority to instruct referees to go from the rules.
Addressing the fans accountable for this chanting, Le Graet added:”Do not return to the arena together with banners, it is as simple as that.
“You can encourage your team, however [homophobia is] completely incorrect.”
The principles were publicly endorsed by French sports minister Roxana Maracineanu, that last week said she had been”astonished” by previous remarks from Le Graet that”too many matches” had been stopped because of incidents of homophobia.
